Net Protection for Breakouts

This week’s video covers a very useful tip for defensemen to utilize on breakouts.  Many young defensemen inadvertently give the forechecking pressure a lane to close them off or take the body instead of using the net as added protection to gain the advantage.  This video covers how to properly use the  net to your advantage.

  1. This is one of the most important tips a defenseman can learn. I used to beg forwards to follow when I played D. I was a converted F to D in my rec hockey years and this sure helped me as it has help numerous D I have coached. Awesome topic Kevin. Thanks

  2. although we were defeated in sudden death IN THE MASS. HIGH GIRLS STATES ,I WILL USE THIS CONCEPT NEXT YEAR.
    THE WAY WE WERE DEFEATED WAS A TURN OVER IN OUR END.
    FACE OFF TO RIGHT OF GOALIE WE PUT A STRONG DEFENSE BEHIND THE CTR. WON THE DRAW DEFENSE WENT BEHIND THE NET
    TO BREAK OUT ON OPPOSITE SIDE AND WE LOST IT ON THE BOARDS
    AND THE GIRL WALK IN FOR THE GOAL OH WELL WELL GET THEM NEXT YEAR.THIS IS A GOOD RESOURCE INSTEASD OF LOOKING THROUGH COACHING BOOKS NICE JOB KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
